Tips on getting my 20 month old to use utensils/plate?
I've been giving my son a toddler fork/spoon for months now and he barely uses them. He pretty much just plays with it and uses his hands to pick up the food and eat. Sometimes he will try to use the spoon/fork but will get tired of that very quickly. Also I usually just put his food on his high chair tray and I just bought little plastic plates for him to use. He took all the food off than threw the plate on the floor. He does the same thing with a bowl too so I haven't used them in awhile. He does use a bowl in the morning for cereal, but I let him eat in the floor in the living room and he dumps them out and would rather eat them off the floor. Every other meal he does eat in his high chair. any advice?
The high chair has a 40lbs limit and I don't have a table (I have a very small kitchen)... all I have is a counter with bar stools which I would not trust a booster sit in. He does sit right next to me while eating so I don't think that makes a difference.
You can't force him. When he is ready he will use them. My son wanted nothing to do with kids utensils. I gave him a regular fork and he was fine with that. I also think that is something that takes awhile to get the hang of as well. My son has also been known to dump liquid on the floor and try and slurp it up..... Kids are weird. He will get it when hes ready.
